MYT Announcements: Cutting Edge Psychology and Neuroscience Training is what MYT is all about.

In a recent discussion about cutting edge psychology the topic of positive psychology came up so I asked Dr. Fred Luskin to explain what this was all about. Here is his response.
Art...I was referring to the new field in psychology called positive psychology which looks at what is right with people( their strengths and capacities) not just what is wrong ( their struggles and problems). Positive psychology trains strengths and adaptive skills rather than try always to remediate or hone in on weaknesses. That said the problem for people often is the negativity bias which is our basic neurological programming that directs our attention to problems and past difficulties to make sure they do not happen again. This bias is to make sure that we mobilize our resources to deal with threatening situations and use past threats to create ways to deal with new threats. In our current society that negativity bias causes the problem of over arousal and stress as much as it becomes an aid in adaptive problem solving. Neuroplasticity says that new neuron sequences and firings can be created in the brain through practice, intention and attention. It says that our brains can learn and change at any time and that practicing positive things can create positive nueronal connections. So positive psychology at some level tries to use neuroplasticity to over ride the negativity bias when appropriate .
Dr. Luskin will continue this discussion in next months newsletter so there is more to come!!
Remember that we are offering a free 2 hour seminar where we will explain the limitations that stress imposes on our productivity. And we will teach at least one skill that will help alleviate its negative effects. Check out the "Dates to Note" section below for a seminar near you.

3) How did you react to your IDP and do you still refer to it?A) When I first read my IDP I was not sure if it was correct, then I really thought about it and my true behaviors and did find it to be very accurate.
4) Did you receive focused, direct, & honest feedback from your "observers"? A) Yes and No this I could have done a better job with.
5) Tell the readers about the coaching calls - what were they like? A) The coaching calls helped to bring this to light and confirmed what the IDP was saying.

Dealing with all of those negative thoughts and worry while having to have to be able to make life and death decisions.

Testimonials....
"I found this workshop to be very rewarding. We tend to get very busy in our practices and taking the time to focus on these areas is often just the recipe neeeded to push through to the next level. The program helped me to look in at my personal self rather than look out for answers. I would definitely recommend it."
