MYT Announcements: Cutting Edge Psychology and Neuroscience Training is what MYT is all about.

The July 1st, 2010 issue of the International Herald Tribune posted this article on Neuroscience & Extroverts.
OUTLOOK AND BRAIN STRUCTURE ARE LINKED, NEW STUDY SAYS
In a study in Psychological Science, neuroscientists report that extroverts tend to have a larger-than-average orbitolfrontal cortex, a region that sits behind the eyes and is especially active when the brain registers rewards. "they tend to be more cheerful and assertive and have a tendency to want awards," said Colin G. DeYoung, the study's lead author who is a psychologist at the University of Minnesota. "It makes sense that they would have more of the machinery to keep track of winning." The scientists relied on M.R.I. scans of more than 100 adults, after establishing each subject's personality type using a model known as the Big Five. Any person, the model purports, can be described by their level of 5 traits: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness/intellect. Neurotics, or those who often have negative, depressing thoughts, tend to have smaller medial prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain known to regulate emotion. It is important to remember that all such links between the brain biology and personality are highly suggestive and poorly understood. Although the personalities are generally stable, they can be affected by experience over a lifetime, Dr. DeYoung said. In other words, for those with a small medial prefrontal cortex, there is hope that it may grow. S.N.B.

Q. How did you hear about MYT and its EQ work? A. While working for Ameriprise Financial in Garden City a few years ago. Art DeLorenzo was introduced to our office and shortly there after we began working together. I also attended an MYT class with a senior advisor to learn more about the program.
Q. What was your first experience like?
A. I thought it was great! I remember how energized I was with the flood of new information that really did make a difference in the way I felt. We learned breathing exercises that in actuality altered the negative emotions and responses felt under stressful situations. Q. Did you receive focused, direct & honest feedback from your "observers". A. Yes. Q. How did you react to your IDP and do you still refer to it? A. Initially I was a bit surprised at how accurate (to my overall personality) the profile was. Yes, I do return on it a great deal.
Q. Tell the readers about the coaching calls - what were they like? A. The calls were extremely helpful and encouraging. The positive feedback creates an empowering frame of mind. Q. How many times have you been through the workshop? Are they still helpful? A. I attended one MYT workshop but as a team we also participated in a few experiential learning events which were awesome. When you have to rely on others and work proficiently as one, it really creates a deep bond and unified strength. This was enlightening and certainly my favorite component. Q. Do you feel you are more emotionally competent? A. I scored relatively high on the emotional competence scale. I am fortunate that I already have the EQ skills needed to alleviate "most" stressors. I will need all the emotional competence I can muster when my only son goes away to college in August!
Q. Was attending MYT worth the investment and if so how can you quantify it? A. I personally did not make a monetary investment (my bosses did) but I did make an investment to MYT of my time and energy. I feel that everyone should be part of this remarkable learning process. Each person needs to realize how short this life is and get a grasp on what is beyond a doubt important. We all need insight as to what makes us tick and how we can help ourselves be better human beings, spouses, parents, employer's, employees and so on. Yes. I quantify the investment by stating I can accomplish more of what I want to because I spend less of my energy during the day being stressed or consumed with emotional non productive thoughts.
